Jose “Joe” Robert Archuleta, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 3, at Ogden Regional Medical Center surrounded by loved ones.

Jose was born Sept. 9, 1942, in Dixon, New Mexico, to Diego and Cora Archuleta.

He moved to Carter, Wyoming with his parents in 1950, before moving to Evanston in 1962. He graduated from Mountain View High School in 1962, and attended college in Powell, Wyoming for culinary arts earning an associates degree.

He met the love of his life Orleene Espinoza in Evanston, Wyoming where they later married on November 23, 1966. He had many jobs throughout his lifetime but his fondest was his 25 year career working for the Uinta County Sheriff’s Department.

Jose began as a dispatcher in 1982 and worked his way up through the ranks and served as a detention sergeant for Uinta County before retiring in 2007. Jose also frequently dedicated time assisting the courts as a Spanish speaking interpreter for many years after retirement.

Those who knew Jose knew him for his unwavering kindness and boundless generosity. He was a devoted Catholic and accepted all walks of life and was always willing to help someone in need. 

Jose greatest joy in life was spending time with his friends and family. He also enjoyed cooking for loved ones as well as fishing, hunting, painting and listening to music.

He is survived by his son Joseph (Krystal) Archuleta of Evanston, Wyoming, daughter Kathy (Darin) Damron of Evanston, Wyoming, son John Archuleta of Evanston, Wyoming, sister Viviana Lopez of Thermopolis, WY, sister Dora Roderick of Evanston, WY, sister Jenny Slagowski of Midvale, UT, sister Mary (Eddie) Andersen of Casper, WY, and Diego Archuleta Jr. of Evanston, WY along with seven grandchildren, Amanda Damron, Elijah Archuleta, Ajahonna Archuleta, James Archuleta, Helena Archuleta, Alicia Huanca and Christopher Huanca, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his Mother Cora Archuleta, Father Diego Archuleta Sr. His loving wife Orleene Archuleta, brothers Gilbert, Dennis, Steven, Raymond and sister Betty Archuleta. His daughter Joann Huanca and grandson Seth Gower.

Rosary will be recited at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 813 Center Street, Evanston, Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, at 5:00 PM, viewing will follow from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  An additional viewing will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at the church with Mass to follow at 1:00.  Interment will be in the Evanston City Cemetery.
