Audrey “Jeanie” Reed, born on Jan. 14, 1944, died Sunday, Aug, 18, in Parker, Arizona.
Jeanie was born to Ray and Blanche Dickman and grew up in Delta, Colorado, and she attended Delta schools.
Jeanie was one of 11 siblings and took the responsibility of older sister seriously. After the early death of her mother, she took care of her younger siblings while working as a waitress.
In 1962, Jeanie married Raymond “Butch” Reed. Together, they had three children: Wayne, Patricia and Rod. In 1977, the family moved to Kemmerer, where both Butch and Jeanie became integral members of their community.
An important part of their community was Jeanie’s membership in Al-Anon and Butch’s dedication to Alcoholics Anonymous. Through AA, they traveled the United States and met many lifelong friends. Together, they worked tirelessly to help hundreds achieve and maintain sobriety.
At home, she was rarely caught without a fresh pot of coffee, waiting for whoever might come through the door. There was always a seat at her table, and it was never too late to call.
Affectionately called “Nana” by those who loved her most, it was the role she valued most. Jeanie was a devoted grandmother to her eight grandchildren and, when they were young, it was rare to see her without at least one of them in tow.
Her passions included gardening, wildflowers, rock hunting, country music, and bingo! Jeanie was an avid reader, a dog lover, and a caretaker to those in need.
Following retirement, Butch and Jeanie moved to Bouse, Arizona, where they continued to expand their connections. They quickly became an integral part of their community. Jeanie formed many meaningful relationships with her neighbors and friends at the bingo hall.
Jeanie took care of people — that’s what she did. Through caring for others later in life, she finally allowed herself to be taken care of.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to her Bouse neighbors and friends for the compassion, care and companionship you provided her through the years.
She is preceded in death by her grandson, Brayden; daughter, Patricia; husband, Ray; her parents; six siblings; and friends she considered family.
She is survived by her two sons; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four siblings; and countless friends.
Jeanie loved the mountains of Wyoming and will be returned home with a scattering of her ashes following a celebration of life service in Diamondville Park, in Diamondville, for friends and family from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
