CASPER (WNE) — Wyoming Senators John Barrasso and Cynthia Lummis marked their disapproval of new rules by President Joe Biden that seek to implement legal protections for certain undocumented immigrants.

Biden on Tuesday morning announced that some U.S. citizens’ spouses without legal status will be eligible to apply for permanent residency and later citizenship without having to first depart the country.

Up to half a million undocumented immigrants could be affected, according to other media reports.

“Joe Biden is rewarding illegal immigrants with mass amnesty. There have been 10 million illegal crossings since Joe Biden took office,” Barrasso said in response. “Any Democrat attempt to address the border now is too little, too late. Democrats are the party of open borders.”

Biden two weeks ago implemented an executive order to turn away asylum seekers after a 2,500 daily encounter threshold is met.

“[Biden] pretended to care about securing the border before announcing a mass amnesty plan to provide citizenship to hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens,” Sen. Cynthia Lummis said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “The number of people that would get citizenship under this plan is more than the entire state of Wyoming’s population.”
