With the 2023-24 regular season entering its final week, the Kemmerer High School girls’ hoops team will head into Friday’s home finale with some much-needed momentum, shaking off a tough loss Friday at Wyoming Indian to earn the season sweep at St. Stephens the following day.

The Kemmerer High School boys’ basketball team struggled in closing out its non-conference schedule last week, dropping a home game to the Rich Rebels, then falling on the road to a talented Cokeville squad.

The Kemmerer High School wrestling team was back on the road Saturday for the Rumble in Rawlins, posting a 3-1 record in the dual-meet format, including a pair of wins over 4A opponents.

The Kemmerer High School boys’ swimming and diving team competed at the 3A South Conference Meet in Pinedale over the weekend, placing fourth as a team, with six podium finishes.

The Kemmerer High School cheer team was in Casper Friday for the 2024 State Spirit competition, and the Lady Rangers made it a day to remember, finishing third in 2A Game Day Cheer, and fifth in 3A All Girl Cheer (Stunts).

Consistently billed as the toughest wrestling tournament in the state, the Ron Thon Memorial Tournament in Riverton pits the top wrestlers in Wyoming in each weight class against each other, regardless of classification — a true “Best of the Best” competition. The Kemmerer High School wrestling teams proved up to the challenge over the weekend, with the Rangers and Lady Rangers combining for two individual champions, three runners-up and six total trips to the podium.

The Kemmerer High School boys’ swimming and diving team turned in another strong showing over the weekend, placing eighth at the Bruce Gresly Invite in Lander. “Overall, the meet went really well for us,” said KHS head coach Amanda Aimone. “We were 8th out of 14 teams, with only six guys. We had to leave one home due to illness. We had some wonderful performances.”

Proving they’re still the team to beat in Class 2A, the two-time defending 2A State Champion Kemmerer High School wrestling team posted a 5-3 record over the weekend at the Thoman Soda Ash Memorial Duals in Green River, placing third in Pool D, and 10th out of the 24 teams that competed.

The Kemmerer High School boys’ basketball team hosted the Fossil County Classic over the weekend, and while the Rangers played hard in all four games, the home team had just one win to show for their efforts.

After a shaky start over the weekend at the Wrangler Invite in Shoshoni, the Kemmerer High School boys’ basketball team got things rolling, finishing strong with a 2-1 record for the tournament. The Rangers opened play Friday against a physical Burlington squad, losing to the No. 5-ranked team in 1A, 57-54. Kemmerer rebounded later that day with a 60-53 win over host Shoshoni, then closed out the tournament Saturday with a 60-27 rout of Rocky Mountain.

The Kemmerer High School boys’ basketball team opened its 2023-24 campaign on the road over the weekend, posting a 1-2 record at the Bridgerland Classic, held at Mountain View and Lyman. The Rangers opened the tournament Thursday night with a 67-46 loss to host Mountain View, followed by a close 64-60 loss to Cokeville Friday morning. The Rangers closed out the tournament Friday afternoon on a winning note, riding the hot hand of Chase Bowen to a 62-44 win over Uintah.

After posting a 14-12 record in 2022-23 — including going 0-2 at the 2A State Tournament in Casper — the Kemmerer High School boys’ basketball team is looking to regroup under second-year head coach Matt Stewart, with an eye toward another postseason run.

The 2022-23 incarnation of the Kemmerer High School girls’ basketball team defied expectations, overcoming youth, inexperience and the loss of the team’s top scorer to injury to finish 17-10 and advance to the 2A State Tournament, courtesy of a third-place finish at regionals.

For the second straight week, the Wyoming Cowboys enjoyed a fast start that led to their eighth overall win of the season and their fifth Mountain West Conference victory of the year as the Cowboys secured a 42-6 road win over the Nevada Wolf Pack. Wyoming finished the regular season 8-4 overall and 5-3 in the Mountain West. The Cowboys will now await a bowl invitation for the sixth time in the past eight seasons and the third consecutive season. Wyoming has never gone bowling in three successive seasons.

As a 12-year-old in 2022, Kemmerer golf phenom Taz-lynn Wagner turned heads in her home state and on the Utah Junior Golf Tour, playing up an age group and finishing at or near the top of the leaderboard in every tournament she entered, and winning the second flight at the Wyoming State Amateur Championship.
