Robert “Bob” Matthews, age 66, of Harrisonville, Missouri, formerly of Amoret, Missouri died Monday, Sep­t. 3, at Meadow View Nursing Home in Harrisonville. He was born March 24, 1952, to Clyde Elmore and Eulela May Bohlken Matthews in Kansas City, Missouri.

Bob grew up in Amoret and attended Miami High School. He furthered his education at State Fair College in Sedalia, Missouri. Bob married Diane Thornton, and to this union a son was born. He later married Kathleen Burroughs, and together they shared many wonderful years. In his early years, Bob worked for LaCygne Jet Flo and the Pleasanton Lumber Yard. He later worked for P&M Coal Company (later called Chevron) as a material specialist. He attended the Amoret Presbyterian Church as a child.

Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching Royals baseball and playing baseball. He was helpful, loving, friendly, generous. He never met a stranger and had a good sense of humor.

Bob is survived by his wife Kathleen “Kathy” Matthews of Harrisonville, Missouri; one son, Mike Matthews and wife Jody of Blue Mound, Kansas; two brothers, Steve Matthew and wife Sandra, and Kevin Matthew and wife Christy, all of Amoret, Missouri; and one grandson, Hayden Matthews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services were held on Friday, Sept.7, at Benjamin Cemetery in Amoret, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be offered at schowengerdtchapel.com.
