Panthers earn second place at tournament

The Cokeville Panther wrestlers traveled to Wind River High School last weekend for the Annual Don Runner Memorial Wrestling Tournament.

This was a two-day tournament on Friday, Jan. 12, and Saturday, Jan. 13. There were 13 teams competing. The Panthers had four of their 19 team members sick or injured so there were only 15 Panther wrestlers competing.

Following the 1st day, eight Panthers had qualified for the semifinals.

Following several close matches, five of the eight wrestlers advanced to the finals.

Wrestlers who finished the tournament as champions in their weight classes were Lochlyn Teichert (132), Cordell Viehweg (160) and Bentley Johnson (170).

Devan Moody (152) placed 6th, Ammon Teichert (145) placed 3rd, Antheny Petersen (170) placed 3rd, Rick Nate (182) placed 2nd and Brayden Johnson (160) placed 2nd.

The Outstanding Wrestler Award went to Bentley Johnson.

The team finished strong at the tournament and brought home the 2nd place team trophy.

The top 4 team scores were as follows: 4th place Wright with 164.5, 3rd plaec Big Piney with 166.0, 2nd place Cokeville with 170 and 1st place Roosevelt High School (Colorado) with 205.5.

The wrestlers have a full week in store.

The Cokeville Panthers host Rich County and Lyman on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 5:00 p.m.

On Friday, Jan. 19, and Saturday, Jan. 20, the wrestlers   travel to Orem, Utah, for the Rocky Mountain Rumble.
