The Kemmerer High School boys’ golf team showed what it’s capable of when it fields a full team, placing third last week at the Pinedale Invitational, held at Rendezvous Meadows Golf Course. Two Rangers finished in the Top 5.

Senior Austin Christen finished second overall, and just missed earning medalist honors, losing in a playoff to Pinedale’s Braxton Costello. Freshman Trevan Benson finished fourth.

On the girls’ side, freshman Tazlyn Wagner continued her memorable start to her high school career with a second-place finish, just three shots back of medalist Jordyn Horsley, of Star Valley.

Star Valley won the team title with a 642, followed by host Pinedale in second (673) and Kemmerer in third (676). Rock Springs was fourth in the seven-team field with a score of 678, while Green River rounded out the Top 5 with a 730.

Christen opened the tournament with a 73 and, by the time the dust settled on Day 1, held a 3-shot lead over Rock Springs’ TJ Atkinson, who carded a 76. A 79 on Day 2 gave Christen a two-day total of 152, tying him with Costello, who followed his opening-round 79 with a 73 on Day 2 to force a playoff. Costello won the playoff and medalist honors, while Christen finished runner-up, his highest finish as a Ranger.

Benson carded a 77 both days to finish with a two-day total of 154, good enough for fourth place, and his second Top 10 finish
