Dozens in town for joint reunion

Members of the Kemmerer High School graduating classes of 1960-65 and 1968-69 attended a Joint Class Reunion on Aug. 9-10 at the Diamondville Park pavilion. There were also three alumni from the 1950s — DJ Bertagnolli Kominsky, Joan Wiatrowski Burnett and Max Fritzel — were also in attendance.

The reunion was one of re-acquainting and reminiscing, and was thoroughly enjoyed by the 140 attendees (including spouses and guests). Fortunately, as time manages to change appearances, there were name tags for almost all the alumni with photos from their yearbooks to help identify whom people were greeting.

The following awards were given: Oldest Attendee, DJ Bertagnolli Kominsky, 91; Second Oldest Attendee, Joan Wiatrowski Burnett, 85; Most Great-grandchildren, Joan Burnett with 30; Most Artificial Joints, Sue Herschler Hunt with six; Farthest Traveled, Elaine Mishkind Walton from Florida; and Longest Kemmerer Resident, Elias Olguin, 81 years.

Some events included a tour of Kemmerer High School, guided by Tara Hysell; tours of the newly reorganized and renamed Hamsfork Museum, guided by Cathy Knight, Deb Archibald, Janet Vetos and Dave Harwood; and a narrated tour of the Indian Sun Dial in the Cumberland area, led by Bill Harris.

The delicious meals were catered by the Opera House Store, and water was provided by Willow Springs Natural Artesian Spring Water.

Photographs of each graduating class were taken. Sadly there were numerous classmates in all the classes who had passed on, and they were honored on various class posters.

In addition, Donna Kushnirik Sedey and her daughter, DJ, had assembled some class and other activity photos taken in grade school that made for interesting challenges in trying to identify kids in the photos.

It was an immensely fun time for all, with joyous hugs and even a few tears of joy while reconnecting with friends from long ago.

The remaining question is “When are we going to do it again?”
