Community holds Christmas parties; Basketball season underway

The American Legion Auxiliary LaVoy Thornock Unit 40 held its Christmas party on Monday, Dec. 4, at Jan Moody’s home. They enjoyed a delicious potluck meal, a fun gift exchange and singing Christmas carols.

Cokeville 1st Ward held its family Christmas party on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Those attending enjoyed a delicious meal, a Christmas program and visiting with friends and neighbors.

The American Legion Auxiliary LaVoy Thornock Unit 40 held its Christmas party on Monday, Dec. 4, at Jan Moody’s home. They enjoyed a delicious potluck meal, a fun gift exchange and singing Christmas carols.

Cokeville 1st Ward held its family Christmas party on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Those attending enjoyed a delicious meal, a Christmas program and visiting with friends and neighbors.

Cokeville Elementary was rewarded with a pizza party, sponsored by the Flying J, which provided the pizza, for defeating Cokeville High School in a Christmas “Family Feud” game during their recent Christmas party.

Cokeville 2nd Ward held its family Christmas party on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal followed by a musical program. It was a great night to share in the Christmas spirit with family and neighbors.

The junior high wrestlers finished up their season at an area wrestling tournament in Evanston on Thursday, Dec. 7. Congratulations to each of the wrestlers on a great season.

The junior high girls’ basketball team hosted the area end-of-season tournament on Friday, Dec. 8. There were eight teams competing. The young Lady Panthers seventh- and eighth-grade teams each ended the season with a win. Congratulations.

The Cokeville High Panther hoopsters opened up this weekend on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8-9, at the Bridgerland Tournament in Lyman. They went 2-1 on the weekend.

They defeated the Kemmerer Rangers, 64-60. Justin Moyes was their top scorer with 19, followed by Drake Plowman with 17, and Kayson Walker with 12.

They also defeated the Cougars of Wind River, 62-35. Moyes again was their top scorer with 16, followed by Ammon Hatch with 12, and Kalob Haderlie with 9.

Their only loss on the weekend was to 4A Uintah out of Utah, 43-46. Moyes had 14, Walker had 8 and Jack Dayton had 7.

The Panthers will travel to Rich County to face the Rebels on Thursday, and will travel to Shoshoni on Friday and Saturday for another tournament. Good luck, Panthers!

The Lady Panthers opened their season of hoops on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8-9, at the Bridgerland Tournament in Lyman.

They went 2-0, defeating Manila 64-49 and Lyman 66-59. Addison Barnes led the scoring against Manila with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Mia Dayton had 12 points. TyLeigh Dayton had 9 points and 11 rebounds. Bryli Groll had 6 assists and 7 rebounds. Rachel Thomas had 4 assists and 7 rebounds. Madi Dayton had 4 steals.

Barnes was the top scorer against the Lady Eagles with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 7 steals. TyLeigh Dayton had 10 points. Mia Dayton had 9 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. Bryli Groll had 9 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Rachel Thomas had 4 rebounds. Madi Dayton had 5 rebounds.

Congratulations, Lady Panthers, on a great weekend. The Lady Panthers will travel to Rich County on Thursday and then Shoshoni on Friday for a two-day tournament. Good luck, Lady Panthers!

The Cokeville Christmas Musicale, under the direction of Kiana Gilmore, was performed for a large crowd at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sunday, Dec. 10. It was a wonderful program filled with music and narration.
