Funeral services were held for Robert Nelson Petersen on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cokeville. Friends and family gathered to celebrate and honor a great man.

Primary elections were held on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Local results of interest: Mayor Colby Peck received 91 votes, Alec Gilmore received the most write-in votes with 31. City Council: Charles Dayton received 105, Cameron Bird 94 and receiving the most write-in votes was Brad Nate, with 62.

St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Cokeville sponsored the annual school supply giveaway on Monday, Aug. 19. Along with school supplies for the coming year, children also received a wristband with “Jesus Loves You” printed on it. Special thanks to the Church for this wonderful community service they so generously sponsor each year.

Teachers and staff at Cokeville Elementary and Cokeville High School were back to school preparing for the upcoming school year this past week. They spent time in professional development, classroom preparation and team building activities.

Fall sports opened up with two-a-day practices this past week. The Lady Panthers volleyball team will host the annual Tournament of Champions on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 30 and 31. The Panthers will host the Kemmerer Rangers on Thursday, Aug. 29, in a scrimmage.

Micah Petersen, son of Kenny and Andra Petersen, spoke in the Cokeville First and Second wards on Sunday, Aug. 25, in preparation for serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas, El Paso Mission. Petersen will begin at home MTC training on Monday, Sept. 2.

Back to school nights are set for Wednesday, Aug. 28, for the high school at 5:30 p.m.; and Thursday, Aug. 29, for the elementary at 5:30 p.m.
