LARAMIE — University of Wyoming head swimming and diving coach Dave Denniston announced the 2017–18 schedule for the Cowboys and Cowgirls on Wednesday, August 2.

The slate features five duals in Laramie.

Wyoming will once again open the season with the annual Brown and Gold exhibition meet on Sept. 29 at Corbett pool.

The lone exhibition for UW will be the opening event for the Cowboys and Cowgirls for 11th-straight season.

On. Oct. 7, Wyoming will travel to the DU Relays for the eighth-consecutive year before hosting the University of Denver on Oct. 14 at Laramie High School.

The Cowgirls will then travel to New Mexico for a full weekend of action. On Oct. 20, UW will face off with New Mexico State in a rematch of last year’s dominating 153-84 win for the Cowgirls. Wyoming will then compete against Mountain West foe New Mexico on Oct. 21.

A weekend of conference competition follows with the women racing Colorado State on Oct. 27 at Corbett Pool and both squads facing Air Force on Oct. 28 at Laramie High School.

“Our biggest weekend will be Homecoming weekend, when our women take on Colorado State on Friday night at Corbett and then both our men and women take on Air Force Academy on Saturday,” Denniston said. “That will also be our senior recognition meet. And our men are looking to try to win the helmet back from Air Force.”

The final home meet for the Cowgirls will be on Nov. 3 against Northern Colorado. Then both teams will travel to Missouri for the Mizzou Invite, running Nov. 16 –18.

“Our mid-season meet will be at Missouri again this year, where we get to race against some of the best swimmers in the country,” Denniston said.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls will then compete at their last invitational of the season at the Colorado Mesa Invite from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2.

The first dual of 2018 will be against Colorado School of Mines on Jan. 6 in Golden, Colo. The women will then travel to face Boise State in a two-day competition, Jan 19 – 20.

“Our women are looking forward to racing Boise State again at their place,” Denniston said.

The last two duals of the season will take place in Las Vegas on Jan. 26 and 27.

First, the men and women will compete against UNLV. Then on Jan. 27 both squads will race against the Rebels along with Grand Canyon.

“Our men will have a significant challenge to beat both teams. But I expect some really fast racing in Las Vegas at that meet before we go to Conference,” Denniston said.

Wyoming’s divers will compete in the Air Force Diving Invite on Feb. 2–3 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The 2017–18 Mountain West Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships will be held in San Antonio, Texas, on Feb. 14–17, followed by the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Houston, Texas, on Feb. 21-24.
