Republican candidate for Wyoming governor Harriet M. Hageman visited Cokeville on Wednesday, Jan 17.

Hageman visited with residents at the Gold Buckle Grill, and shared her plans for Wyoming if she is elected governor.

Hageman said she has two main focuses: improving Wyoming’s education and utilizing the state’s natural resources.

The gubernatorial candidate mentioned that she comes from a long line of strong educators.

She also mentioned her deep Wyoming roots. Hageman is a fourth generation Wyomingite and grew up raising sheep on a farm, so she said she can relate to Wyoming’s rural population. She then said she thinks it is important to attract families to Wyoming by providing a better education.

Hageman said she grew up in a foster family of 40 foster kids, and knows the importance of family to a child’s development.

Hageman also discussed her other main campaign platform — utilizing Wyoming’s abundant natural resources. She said she understands how much our communities thrive from natural resources, and by building a strong foundation in using our resources, families will be able to stay in their towns.

Hageman has been a lawyer for 20 years and said she understands the importance of the separation of powers. She said she has seen some problems with the government taking too much control over other groups, particularly in the legislature.

Hageman said there is a reason the responsibilities of our government are divided into branches: to bring stability to our state and country.

She said she hopes to bring back that stability to Wyoming’s government.

Hageman also answered several questions from event attendees. Residents were provided with a 2018 Caucus and Convention Schedule. Precinct 2-9 will meet at the Cokeville Town Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 7:00 p.m. Taylor Allred will chair the meeting.
