Posted

President Donald J. Trump addressed the nation for his first State of the Union address on Tuesday, Jan. 30. President Trump called for bipartisanship and recounted his administration’s first year. Wyoming Senators Barrasso and Enzi, and Representative Cheney provided statements with their thoughts about the President’s first State of the Union.

U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) released the following statement in response to President Trump’s State of the Union address:

“President Trump’s address tonight spoke of building a safer and stronger America. His speech was full of the same spirit of optimism and confidence I have heard over the past year from people in Wyoming.

“In particular, I was pleased to hear the president discuss the need to upgrade the country’s aging infrastructure. America’s roads, bridges, dams, highways, and ports are crucial to the nation’s success. We need a robust, fiscally responsible infrastructure bill that makes it easier to start and finish projects more quickly.

“I will continue to work side by side with the president on ways to expand freedoms and opportunities for the people of Wyoming.”

U.S. Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) released the following statement after President Trump delivered his State of the Union address.

“In the last year, President Trump and Congress have achieved a number of impressive accomplishments, including historic tax cuts and an unprecedented effort to end unnecessary and burdensome regulations. Our efforts have helped create more jobs, spurred the economy after years of slow growth and improved the lives of folks across the country. And in addition to confirming Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, the Senate has been able to reshape the judiciary to focus on the rule of law by confirming 22 of President Trump’s judicial picks. There are still many challenges at home and abroad that we will need to work on together in order to solve. There are great opportunities that await us if we believe in our country’s enormous potential. I was pleased to hear the President’s thoughts on the challenges ahead and look forward to the next year and the continued success that we will be able to see if we keep embracing policies that put our faith in the American people.”

Congressman Liz Cheney’s statement regarding President Trump’s State of the Union Address.

“Tonight, President Trump laid out a bold agenda for American prosperity and security at home and abroad. Building on the economic success of the first year of the Trump administration, the President spoke about the steps necessary to ensure expanded opportunity and hope for all Americans. He showed resolve in confronting and defeating America’s enemies with a resounding commitment to securing our borders, rebuilding our military, ending sequestration, and maintaining armed forces that are second to none. The President’s speech tonight was an impressive and inspiring call to action.”
