The Thoman Wrestling Invitational duals tournament in Green River on Friday, Jan. 5, and Saturday, Jan. 6, was a good one for the Kemmerer wrestling team.

The Rangers competed well and ended up in seventh place overall. Kemmerer finished behind Vernal, Green River, Rock Springs, Worland, Evanston and Lyman, but finished ahead of eight other teams.

The boys all had some great performances. Three Rangers wrestled in the “best of the best” round: sophomore Dawson Schramm, junior Donny Proffit and junior Hayden Walker.

Donny and Hayden won their matches in the best of the best and finished undefeated. The team is five wrestlers short of a full team so all of their wins as a team were hard fought.

In the dual against Evanston at the tournament, Dawson Schramm beat Evanston’s Rowdy Saavadra in the 120 class. Rayce Kindschuh won over Trason Roundy in the 145 weight class. In the 152 weight class, Lowell Ellis beat Evanston’s Nick Child.

In another dual with Evanston, Hayden Julander beat Gabe Morris in the 160 weight class. Hayden Walker, who returned to wrestling after suffering a football injury, took the 170 weight class over Evanston’s Rylie Griggs. Dawson Schramm and Brendan Miller also won their weight classes in that dual.

WyoWrestling has released their 2A rankings for the state, and Kemmerer continues to place several wrestlers at the top, a good sign for upcoming regional and state tournaments.

In the 126 class, Dawson Schramm is ranked first and Colter Julian is ranked third. In the 132 class, Carson Carlson is ranked fourth.

Donny Proffit is ranked first in the 138 class, and Lowell Ellis is ranked fifth in the 152 class. Hayden Julander is ranked sixth in the 160 class, and Hayden Walker is first in the 170 class.

The Ranger wrestlers host Mountain View at home on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 5:00 p.m. Then the wrestling team heads to Vernal  on Friday, Jan. 12, and Saturday, Jan. 13, for a tournament with more than 40 other wrestling teams.
