Fossil Island Golf Course hosted the first Energy Open on Saturday, August 17.
This is a new tournament for the course, and we are hopeful it will grow to become one of the premiere tournaments of the year.
The Energy Open Tournament is open to anyone, but also features a corporate challenge among local energy companies.
This year teams came from Rocky Mountain Power, Williams, Enterprise, Westmoreland and the City of Kemmerer.
The 1st place gross winner from the local industry teams donates $500 from the tournament prize money to a local nonprofit or charity.
The winners also claim year-long bragging rights and their company name on the tournament trophy.
Saturday’s matchup ended with a three-way tie in the corporate challenge among Westmoreland, Westmoreland Retirees, and Williams.
Rather than doing a scorecard determination for placement, each team selected a player to compete in a single-hole sudden-death playoff on the ninth hole.
Spectators watched the action from the clubhouse, adding a level of pressure for the players. Jimmy Schaffarzick played for the Westmoreland team and won the playoff with four strokes.
Other members of the Westmoreland team included Zach Robinson, Scott Benson and Tyler Roberts.
They donated the $500 charity prize money to Lincoln County Search and Rescue.
