Varsity swim kicks off the New Year

Posted

he Rangers traveled to Lyman on Jan. 4, and kicked off 2020 right! They swam against Sublette and Lyman in a very quick but exciting meet. The Rangers won seven out of the 12 events. These events were the 200 medley relay with Seth Krell, Aiden Runnion, Brayden Dearden and Ben Wergin. Aiden Runnion also won the 200 IM and 500 freestyle, Ben Wergin won the 50 free, Raydin Scigliano won diving, Brayden Dearden won the 100 breaststroke, and the 400 free relay of Wergin, Runnion, Krell and Dearden rounded out the top finishes for the Rangers.

With all the first places the Rangers also had some great things happen. Some other outstanding performances were from freshman Connor Dietrich in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle. “Connor has been working his tail off in practice and it is really showing,” said coach Amanda Aimone. “He swam the 200 individual medley for the first time and placed third with a time of 2:46.06. That’s not bad for a freshman.” Dietrich also cut three seconds off his 100 freestyle time to place fifth.

The Rangers also had an outstanding performance in the 500 freestyle, capturing first through fourth place as well as sixth place. The following Rangers swam the 500 in the above-mentioned places: Aiden Runnion (first), Collin Smith (second), Ben Wergin (third), Seth Krell (fourth), and Darren Smith (sixth). It was a great sweep by the Rangers in that event.

“ Overall I was really happy with how the boys swam. It is really hard to be motivated during the Christmas break and for the most part they were really motivated. They also did a great job of staying in shape over the break which will prove very important for later on in the season,” said Aimone.

The Rangers are back in action this week in Rock Springs on Friday and Evanston on Saturday.
