Track competes at Star Valley, Kemmerer Invite on Saturday

Tyson McKane runs the hurdles at the Dave Draney Invite in Afton last Wednesday. The Kemmerer Rangers will host a track meet at home on Saturday, April 27.

The Kemmerer Ranger track team competed in the Dave Draney Invitational track meet in Afton on Wednesday, April 17, against 13 strong opponents. The boys and girls combined to score 56 points to finish 10th in the standings.

Kenley Plowman ran a solid 65.20 seconds in the 400-meter dash to place second out of 33 runners. She just missed the scoring in the long jump and triple jump by finishing 10th in both events.

Brooklynn Hagler finished ninth in the 300-meter hurdles to narrowly miss scoring. Jillian Tibbetts tossed the discus 86 feet 1 inch, just short of a personal record, to place 13th out of 90 competitors.

Tanner Plowman triple jumped into fifth place with an outstanding jump of 40 feet 2.75 inches, just one quarter-inch short of his personal record. Plowman finished 10th in the long jump. Cameron Adams added a seventh-place finish in the high jump.

Austin Quin Martinez scored points for the boys’ squad in two individual events. Martinez placed seventh out of 50 runners in the 400-meter dash with a solid 55 second run. He then placed eighth in the 200-meter dash in the field of 80 runners.

Quinten Rosas and Cameron Adams ran well in the 100-meter dash to place 15th and 20th in a strong field of 85 runners.

Personal records were achieved by Cyndi Ashliman and Teryn Thatcher in the 100-meter dash, Laurel Clarke in the 100-meter hurdles, Omar El Said in the 800-meter dash, Sammi Butler in the 3200-meter run and Aaron Ortiz in the discus.

Thatcher also prequalified for state in the triple jump with her leap of 32 feet 11 inches in the Lyman Invitational.

The girls’ squad prequalified another lineup of the 1600-meter medley relay when the team of Hagler, Butler, Marisa Orcutt and Plowman ran a season-best time of 4 minutes 41.21 seconds to place first.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Butler, Sydnie Julander, Tibbetts and Sophie Failoni placed second while the 4x100 meter relay team of Hagler, Thatcher, Clarke and Orcutt placed fourth.

The boy’s 4x100 meter relay team of El Said, Martinez, Rosas and Plowman finished third with a season-best time of 47.64 seconds. The 4x800 meter relay team of Grady Killian, Nate Pinkerton, Michael Grimes and Brayden Dearden placed fourth. The 1600-meter medley relay team of El Said, Rosas, Martinez and Plowman also finished fourth.

The Rangers competed in Evanston on Wednesday, April 24, but results were not available at press time. The Rangers will host a track meet in Kemmerer on Saturday, April 27.
