Three Ranger wrestlers ‘Best of the Best’ at Thoman Invite in Green River

Hayden Walker (195) wrestles Uintah’s Titan Young at the Thoman Memorial in Green River last weekend.  The Rangers did well in Green River, with Donny Proffit (145), Dawson Schramm (132) and Walker winning their “Best of the Best” matches.

The Kemmerer Rangers wrestled well at the Thoman Memorial wrestling tournament in Green River on Friday, Jan. 4, and Saturday, Jan. 5. The tournament consists of several duals pitting two schools against each other, and at the end, the two best wrestlers in each weight class wrestle in the “Best of the Best” matches. Ranger wrestlers Dawson Schramm (132), Donny Proffit (145) and Hayden Walker (195) all competed in and won their Best of the Best matches.

Individual Wrestler Results

Connor Vickrey (120) went 4–3 at the tournament. He beat Alexander Jimenez of Granger and Paxton Garner of Lyman, and secured victories in two other matches because of forfeits.

Colter Julian (126) went 5–2 in Green River. Julian wrestled and won against Braxton Sabey (Lyman), Tavean Montoya (Mountain View) and Bridger Brown (Northridge), and also won two matches because of forfeits.

Dawson Schramm (132) went 7–1 at the Thoman Invite. Schramm beat Najib Madbouhi (Mountain View), Casey Isaacson (Rock Springs), Ben Brown (Northridge), Blaze Blank (Granger) and Richie Brewer (Lyman). Schramm competed in the Best of the Best match in his weight class and beat Gavin Ayotte (Uinta) with a fall at 1:49.

Carson Carlson (138) went 4–3 in Green River. Carlson beat Stevan Lujan (Northridge), Preston Mickelsen (Granger),  Garret Maxfield (Lyman) and Trevor Sweeney (Mountain View).

Donny Proffit (145) was undefeated with an 8–0 record in Green River. Proffit beat Michael  Pearce (Northridge), Koby Smith (Uintah), Jacob Dworek (Rawlins), Josue Salazar (Granger), Hagen Lamoreaux (Lyman), Parker Mair (Mountain View) and Colton Davidson (Rock Springs). In the Best of the Best match, Proffit defeated Cokeville’s Lochlyn Teichert with a fall at 0:30.

Josh Thatcher (152) went 4-3 at the tournament. Thatcher was victorious over Edson Romero (Northridge), Hunter Gines (Lyman), Carson Tims (Mountain View) and Landon Toth (Rock Springs).

Hayden Julander (170) went 1–6 in Green River. Julander beat Briggs Richards of Lyman.

Hayden Walker (195) was undefeated with an 8–0 record at the Thoman Memorial. Walker beat Titan Young (Uintah), Kenneth Raymond (Rawlins), Rayden Boguslawski (Granger), Tyler Covolo (Lyman), Jacob Rassancranz (Northridge), and had two matches forfeited to him. In the Best of the Best match, walker faced off against Uintah’s Titan Brown and won with a fall at 0:51.

Thomas Archibald (220) was 3–3 at the tournament. Archibald beat Wyatt Thomas (Northridge) and Hayden Strong (Rawlins).

Thoman Memorial Dual Results

• Kemmerer 33 v. Northridge 37 — The Rangers won 7 matches and lost 7 matches in this dual.

• Kemmerer 36 v. Northridge 43 — The Rangers won 6 matches and lost 8 matches.

• Kemmerer 27 v. Rock Springs 36 — Kemmerer won 5 matches and lost 8 matches in this dual.

• Kemmerer 45 v. Lyman 24 — The Rangers won 8 matches and lost 4 matches. 

• Kemmerer 12 v. Uintah 60 — Kemmerer won 2 matches and lost 12 matches.

• Kemmerer 30 v. Granger 34 — The Ranger wrestlers won 6 matches and lost 7 matches in this dual. 

• Kemmerer 42 v. Mountain View 21— Kemmerer won 7 matches and lost 4 matches in the dual against Mountain View.

The Ranger wrestlers competed at Mountain View in a dual on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Results were not available at press time.

Kemmerer will wrestle at the Tournament of Champions in Vernal, Utah, on Friday, Jan. 11, and Saturday, Jan. 12.
