Senior Carl Krell dominates in opening swim weekend

The Kemmerer Ranger boys’ swim team started their season on Friday, Dec. 8, with a meet in Pinedale against the Sublette County and Lander swim teams.

On Friday, Dec. 8, the boys traveled to Pinedale and made their mark there. Kemmerer took on Sublette and Lander at the triangular meet.

For the 200-yard medley relay, the Kemmerer team of sophomore Benjamin Wergin, freshman Brayden Dearden, senior Carl Krell and junior Alvaro de Vicente took second place.

Alvaro de Vicente earned fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle.

In the 200-yard IM, Carl Krell took second, Benjamin Wergin fourth and Brayden Dearden sixth.

Krell took second in the 500-yard freestyle in Pinedale. and not far behind in fourth place was Alvaro de Vincente.

Grady Killian swam to second place in the 100-yard breaststroke. Kemmerer took second in the 400-yard freestyle relay. 

On Saturday, Dec. 9, Rawlins welcomed the Rangers for a pentathlon swim meet.

Senior Carl Krell placed first in the 100-yard butterfly. Krell also placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke.

Krell continued to dominate the meet for Kemmerer when he earned a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. Krell was behind the first-place swimmer from Lander by only half a second.

Krell finished in second behind the same Lander swimmer in the 100-yard backstroke. Wergin earned 11th place in that event, with Dearden in 13th and de Vicente in 15th place.

Krell swam to a fifth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, with Wergin earning eighth place in that event.

Wergin earned a 12th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, giving Kemmerer some much-needed points.

For the combined pentathlon event scores, Carl Krell earned second place out of swimmers from Lander, Rock Springs, Lyman, Evanston, Rawlins and Sublette County.

Benjamin Wergin earned 12th place out of all the swimmers, and Alvaro de Vicente’s scores earned him 24th.

The Kemmerer boys’ swim team has a busy weekend.

The team will compete in Lyman on Thursday, Dec. 14, at Lander Valley High School on Friday, Dec. 15 and at Riverton High School on Saturday, Dec. 16.
