KEMMERER — The Lincoln County School District No. 1 school board held their monthly meeting on Tuesday Feb. 11. The school board recognized the students of the month and Kinzee Painter who was awarded the WHSAA Good Sportsmanship Award. The school board has approved to re-sign the administration contracts and the tenure teacher contracts as well. The school board also approved the second reading of the resigning policy with no new changes added. The previous changes include the incentive a teacher shall receive if resigning before Feb. 15 and the loss of $100 dollars after until the total is $0. The council also approved the coaching list and the calendar for the 2020-2021 school year.
The school board discussed tearing down the old Kemmerer Elementary building and erecting a new structure. “It’s a tough building to secure, but it’s also a sentimental building,” said Superintendent Teresa Chaulk. She added, that due to the cost of upkeep and not being federally funded for water, heating, and cooling the demolition and reconstructing would save money. The new building would be smaller and funded through grant money if the Legislation approves it. The school board approved the demolition if the funding will be available.
