Six teams from Western Wyoming played the Star Valley View Golf Course in Star Valley on Thursday, May 4. Playing conditions were perfect, with sunshine, temperatures in the 70s and no wind.
It could not have been a better day for the 60 boys and girls who played.
Evanston won the boys’ team title, edging out host Star Valley. Next were the Ranger boys at 360 — ahead of Pinedale, Lyman and Jackson.
Corbin Ourada led the Ranger boys with a score of 88. Next was Ty Hysell at 89. Junior Rayce Kindschuh fired a 91. Freshman Ben Wergin continued to improve his tournament game with a 92. Rounding out the varsity scoring was Brandon Banister’s with 103.
The J.V. team was led again by Trenton Skidmore at 121. Next was Shawn Crank at 126. Collin Smith had a 132. Brandon Crank shot a 135, Michael Clarke came in with a 145 and next was Easton Countryman at 146.
All five girls on the team made the trip to Star Valley. Senior Aubree Burris led the scoring with her best competitive round of the year at 112.
Next was Catherine Rily at 120. Jenna Krell fired a fine 123. Rounding out the girls were exchange student Jule Brecht at 142 and Carolina Pavliutchii at 167.
“This was a historic day for the Ranger golf program,” said golf coach Zem Hopkins. “We have never taken this many players to a tournament, ever. Only one golfer was unable to attend and that was because of a senior test schedule. I was very proud of every player at the meet.”
Coach Hopkins praised the boys’ and girls’ teams for their performance and voiced optimisim for the upcoming Regional tournament on May 13 in Lusk.
“The boys’ team played its best yet. The girls’ team also shot a team best and they also have a chance of placing at Regionals. The two foreign exchange students played for the first time in a meet and they had a great experience. Both the boys and girls are looking forward to the Regional.”
