The Kemmerer Rangers travelled to Mountain View on Friday, Oct. 13 to take on the Buffalos. The Rangers fell 41–0.

The game earned Mountain View the 2A West Conference championship. The loss brought the Rangers to 1–6 on the season.

“We struggled with Mountain View’s size, physicality and speed this last week,” said Rangers coach Bart Jernigan. “We failed to come out with the mindset needed to challenge a team as good as Mountain View.”

Jernigan outlined a few things he wants his team to work on as the season winds down.

“We must do a better job in playing fundamentally sound with blocking and tackling, but we have to bring the right mental approach to this coming game,” Jernigan said. “Our focus in our preparation is making sure we are mentally ready to go out and play. In addition, we are working on cleaning up our pursuit, tackling, and blocking.”

The Rangers host the Lovell Bulldogs for their final game of the season at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, at the Kemmerer stadium.

“The hope for this week is to play up to our potential. We try to make that our focus every week we play,” Jernigan said. “If we do that we can come out of this one with a win.

Friday’s home game will also be the senior recognition game for Ranger football seniors and their parents.

This year’s seniors are Jeff Caugherty, Louis Failoni, Cyrus Skidmore and Coy Taylor.

Coach Jernigan spoke of his respect for the senior players who have worked hard all season long.

“I have a great deal of appreciation for this senior class,” Jernigan said. “These four young men have provided great leadership this season that has been key in helping us improve.”

Jernigan also expressed his respect for what the seniors have done throughout their football careers, not just this year.

“I am proud of the grit and toughness they have exhibited in fighting through some adversity throughout their high school career,” Jernigan said.

“I am glad that we were able to get them a Friday night win this year and would love to see us finish this year out with another victory.

“I look forward to seeing what the futures of these boys looks like. I am hopeful for the things that they are going to do in the world. Though our numbers are small in terms of senior participation this year, the quality of these young men has been incredible.”
