The first test for the Rangers’ wrestling team was on Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 9, when they competed in the Evanston Invitational.

Kemmerer junior Donny Proffit won the 138-pound class.

Sophomore wrestler Dawson Schramm placed second in the 126-pound class. Colter Julian earned fourth place in the same division.

Carson Carlson claimed fourth place in the 132-pound class.

Hayden Julander placed sixth in the 160-pound class.

Junior varsity wrestler Cayson Smith won second place in the 152-pound class.

The 2016–2017 wrestling season was incredibly successful for the Kemmerer Rangers under head coach Darrell Bullington.

The Rangers placed third at the 2A state championships last season. It was the first time in 30 years that Kemmerer had come home from state with a trophy.

Donny Proffit won his second state championship in his weight class.

Hayden Walker and Dawson Schramm also won their weight classes.

The Rangers were also 2A West regional champions last season.

Donny Proffit, Dawson Schramm and Hayden Walker all earned All-State honors last season.

Walker suffered a foot injury during this  football season and has been unable to compete in a wrestling match so far this season.
