The Kemmerer High School wrestling team competed at the Lander Valley High School wrestling tournament on Friday, Jan. 19, and Saturday, Jan. 20.

The Rangers came away with a fifth-place finish, an impressive accomplishment given they were competing against 3A and 4A schools.

Kemmerer had six wrestlers place in the varsity tournament.

Dawson Schramm placed third in the 120 class, beating Cody’s Andrew Sandoval with a fall at 1 minute and 29 seconds.

Carson Carlson earned fifth place in the 138 class. Jeydon Boyd also earned fifth place in the 195 class.

Donny Proffit and Hayden Walker won first place in their respective weight classes.

Lowell Ellis, Hayden Julander, Josh Thatcher, Brendan Miller and Colter Julian also contributed wins to the overall varsity team score.

Cayson Smith won first in the 145 pound J.V. class. Andres Vega also wrestled well in his 138 pound weight class in the J.V. matches.

Star Valley earned first place at the tournament. Worland earned second, Lander third and Powell fourth.

The Rangers continue to place wrestlers at the top in the latest 2A rankings from WyoWrestling.

Dawson Schramm, Donny Proffit and Hayden Walker are all ranked first in their weight classes.

Carson Carlson is ranked 3rd, Colter Julian is ranked 4th, Lowell Ellis is ranked 6th and Jeydon Boyd is ranked 7th.
