On August 21 and 22, the Rangers golf team played in the second annual Terry Berg invite at the Lander Golf Course. Seven teams from western Wyoming made the trip for this event. Weather for the meet was cool and very pleasant. Seventy-four boys and girls competed.
The team event was won by Lander — the defending 3A state champions — with Worland earning second place. Third place went to Star Valley with 653. Powell finished fourth with 762.
The Rangers finished fifth at 780. Sixth was Jackson at 802, and seventh was Lyman at 871.
The best score for the Rangers was turned in by senior Rayce Kindschuh with a 92-82–179.
Next was freshman Blake Wood at 89-100–189. Michael Clarke fired 97-105–202. Next Shawn Crank fired 100-110–210. Rounding out the varsity scoring was Easton Countryman with a 132-144–276. Trenton Skidmore played in the J.V. portion of the meet and scored a 128-131–254.
The effort by the team was great. I wanted improved play from Shawn and Michael, and they came through big time. Michael had a personal record with the first day score of 97 and his two-day total. Shawn again improved his best two-day total.
I was very pleased with how the team did. The other boys performed very well for the Rangers and that allowed us to have another good team performance. We need to improve every week, and the boys are working hard to make their efforts pay off. I am very proud of all the boys’ hard work this year. They come to practice and work hard to get better at the game. I think the hard work will be rewarded at the end of the season.
