Kemmerer, Wyo., August 9, 2017 - The Pole Creek Fire, located 25-miles northwest of Kemmerer, WY on the Kemmerer Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, remains at approximately 3,159 acres and is 15% contained.

The area closure issued August 7, 2017 remains in effect. Although most roads in the area are still open for public use, forest users are reminded to be alert for heavy vehicle traffic from firefighters on narrow and wet roads. Fire behavior was light yesterday due to cool temperatures, high humidity, and scattered precipitation. One half inch of rain was measured over the fire.

Today’s weather is forecasted to be cool, cloudy, and humid, with scattered precipitation throughout the day. Wind will be light to moderate. Firefighters today will continue to scout, construct and improve firelines, and remove hazardous snags around the fire perimeter in preparation for firing operations when conditions permit.

Structure protection crews are nearing completion of structure defense and sprinkler installation. These preparations will continue today. Resources currently assigned to the fire include; four helicopters, four 20 person initial attack hand crews, and ten engines from Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Lincoln, and Sublette Counties. A total of 168 personnel are assigned to the incident.
