Pole Creek Fire update - Tuesday, August 22

Posted

Date of Detection: August 4, 2017

Current Size: 2849

Location: 25-miles northwest of Kemmerer, WY

Cause: Human Caused

Containment: 40%

Resources on Fire: There are currently 246 personnel on this incident, including the following resources:

  • Crews: 5
  • Type 1 Helicopters (Heavy): 1
  • Type 2 Helicopters (Medium): 2
  • Type 3 Helicopters (Light): 0
  • Engines: 12
  • Dozers: 0

Firefighters have been able to successfully complete line along the southern edge of the fire. They will now begin direct and indirect tactics to contain the fire on the northern side.

Crews will continue to utilize helicopters carrying buckets of water to address any heat or spot fires found along the edge of the fire. Because of this, a temporary no fly zone is still in effect. The public is reminded that a no fly zone includes any unmanned aircraft (such as drones) and that flying such a device in the area of a fire is unlawful and dangerous to firefighter safety.

Rehabilitation efforts are ongoing in areas that have been impacted by firefighting efforts. With the aid of heavy equipment, crews are repairing dozer lines and roads. For anyone that obtains a personal use firewood permit, trees that have been removed mechanically are being cut and stacked into firewood to access after the forest closure has been lifted. For public and firefighter safety alike, please stay out of the area until then.
