A team competes in last year’s Pedigree Stage Stop sled dog race. This year’s stop in Kemmerer will be on Monday, Jan. 28, at 9:00 a.m. at the Hams Fork Trailhead.
One of the community’s unique traditions, the Pedigree Stage Stop sled dog race, will be in Kemmerer on Jan. 27 and 28.
On Sunday, Jan. 27, locals can have dinner with a musher at the South Lincoln Training and Event Center at 6:00 p.m. Contact the Event Center for tickets.
On Monday, Jan. 28, the Kemmerer leg of the race begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Hams Fork Trailhead at the end of Hams Fork Road.
After the race on Monday afternoon, locals can attend a meet and greet with the mushers in Triangle Park.
This year the Kemmerer-Diamondville community will have two junior mushers — Aaron Salzman and Ledger Ellis — representing the community at the race’s official start in Jackson on Jan. 25. This year, the race will also stop in Alpine, Pinedale, Big Piney/Marbleton, Lander and Driggs, Idaho before finishing in Jackson.
The main stage stop race is a 10-dog format that covers 34 miles. The race was organized in 1996, and since then, 349 sled dog teams have competed, and more than 5,000 dogs have completed the race.
Last year Bruce Magnusson took first place in the Kemmerer leg of the Pedigree Stage Stop, and the overall race winner was Lina Streeper.
