Washington, D.C. — Getting something done in Washington is not always a pretty process, but U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., said he believes Congress should not give up on making our health care system better.
Speaking on the Senate floor on July 20, Enzi noted that while there may not be one right way to tackle the complex issues of health care, the Senate is still in a position to improve our health care system.
“This isn’t just about politics. This is about real people and whether or not they can afford an insurance premium that is in some cases higher than their rent or their mortgage payment each month,” Enzi said.
Enzi noted that under Obamacare, premiums are more than 100 percent higher in Wyoming today than they were when the law passed, and there is only one insurer on the health care exchanges in the cowboy state.
“How has this happened? It has happened because of politics being put before patients, and an unwillingness to take on the hard task of fixing something that was sold as the perfect solution,” Enzi said.
The process is difficult, but Enzi said he was proud to be working with his Senate colleagues who understand that there is something larger at stake than themselves and who know that sitting this out means more harm that perhaps cannot be undone later.
“I will keep working, and I am committed to passing the best product that we can deliver to the people of Wyoming and for our country,” Enzi said. “I look forward to continuing to work together to repeal Obamacare and replace it with policies that will truly improve health care in America.”
