Nielson named All-Conference recipient

Post-season awards for high school volleyball have been announced for 2020 by the Wyoming Coaches Association.

Olivia Nielson, a junior, received the award this year for her part on the Kemmerer volleyball team.

“I feel really good about winning the award,” Nielson said. “It feels reassuring and that my hard work is paying off.” Nielson has been playing volleyball since middle school. She hopes to play at a college in the future. Nielson loves the competitive nature of volleyball and how every moment is like a mind game.

Head coaches in every conference vote on the players to receive All-Conference honors.

“It means that the other coaches see my potential and skill,” Nielson said. “It is an honor.”

This year Nielson will also play basketball and golf for Kemmerer Junior Senior High School.

“Words can’t describe how thankful I am to have been a part of this team and I look forward to next year,” Nielson said.

Next year will be Nielson’s senior year. She hopes that the volleyball team will have a winning record and go to state. But, most of all, Nielson hopes she has fun in her last year.

Nielson said she could only have done it with the support of her teammates.

“I would like to thank me teammates who pushed me every day since middle school,” Nielson said. “Being without all the seniors who are graduating will be tough, but I wouldn’t be the player I am today without them."
