The Missoula Children’s Theatre came to Kemmerer last week, sponsored by the Lincoln County Prevention of ATODS (alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and suicide) Abuse.

The performances were held at 3 and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Kemmerer High School.

The two theater directors, Stevee Wittlieb and Dylan Merritt, traveled to Kemmerer, bringing everything needed, (set, props, costumes, script and score) to put on a performance of a musical spin on a well-known classic story of “Princess and the Pea.”

They auditioned 57 local kids grades K-8 after school on Monday, Jan. 8, and they rehearsed with them every evening of the week in order to perform two shows at the end of the week.

The sponsoring organization allowed all of the children who auditioned to participate for free and also made it possible for the performances to be free for the public.

Organizers said it’s a great opportunity for these children to gain confidence and skills. During rehearsals the directors taught acting, singing, dance, stage presence and gave everyone an opportunity to gain confidence.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre hasn’t been here for a number of years, and organizers hope it can become an annual event.
