Margaret Ruth Erickson Cox

Margaret Ruth Erickson Cox, passed away on Sept. 6, at the South Lincoln Care Center in Kemmerer, where she resided for the last seventeen years. While there she was loved and cared for by the nursing staff, who became her friends.

She was born on January 24, 1937, in Lyman, Wyo., to Grant and Clarissa Ann (Bond) Erickson. She was raised on the family ranch in Robertson, and attended school in Robertson and Mountain View.

She married Howard Walter Cox on June 16, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1999.

Margaret loved her family and sacrificed her own needs, wants and time to assure they had everything they needed. She enjoyed camping, pack trips and any outdoor activities that included being with her family. Although she had a stroke at age 50, she was still active and was always the first one ready to go. Even when the years started taking their toll, Margaret was still ready for an adventure.

She is locally known as the bingo queen, as evidenced by the many prizes decorating her room. Although her circumstances weren’t the best, Margaret was always cheerful, happy and upbeat; she loved decorating her room with things that were bright and colorful.

Margaret was a member of the LDS church. She served faithfully in various church callings during her earlier years, and could be found  at church service each Sunday. Keeping her temple recommend current was important to her right up until her passing.

Margaret is survived by her children: Shauna  Ruth (Ken) Walker, of Lyman; Jesse Cox of Salem, Oregon; and Carrie Jean Byrne of Colorado. Margaret has 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard; an infant son, Ray Dean; a son, Howard Grant  Cox; a daughter, Linda Kay Beach Woody; and a grandson, Joseph Quinton Walker. Margaret’s parents Grant and Clarissa Erickson, brother George Keith Erickson, and three infant siblings also precede her in death.

Funeral services were held will be on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the Lyman L.D.S. Stake Center in Urie. Viewing will be on Tuesday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m and on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
