Editor's note: The Gazette obtained this press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's office just hours ago on Oct. 28.
On October 16, 2021, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency request for aid. Wherein an investigation revealed a father was apparently shot by his son through the accidental discharge of a rifle while hunting. During the course of the investigation, it became apparent the firearm safety had not been properly engaged. The discharge was accidental but did result in the subsequent death of the father. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office have reviewed this matter and determined that no criminal charges are appropriate. Both agencies offer condolences to the family for their loss.
Due to the sensitive nature of this issue, as well as the fact that a minor is involved, all names have been withheld from public release.
