The Kemmerer Junior Senior High School seniors that graduated on Saturday, June 3 not only contributed to the school’s academics and community involvement, but gave their all in athletic endeavors as well. Below are some highlights of seniors’ athletic achievements for the 2016-2017 sports season.
On Oct. 7 against Pinedale, Kemmerer had their best offensive performance of the season thanks to some good blocking from the offensive line and some hard running from senior Paden Grosulak who rushed for over 100 yards in the game. It was the first time this season that the Rangers had a 100-yard rusher.
At the football banquet on Nov. 15, Colton Rydstrom receives the MVP award for his leadership and performance.
KHS senior football players receive letters and congratulations from coaches, players, and family members at their banquet. Seniors: Austin Sawaya, Paden Grosulak, Colton Rydstrom, Jan Flesar, Christian Lewis, Taylor Rogers.
KHS senior Madison Vilos was named All-Conference for girls basketball.
KHS senior Madison Vilos and junior Taylor Brunski were named All-Conference for girls basketball.
The boys came out 7th out of twelve 3A teams at State. Some of the highlights were Brandon Smith swimming to a 3rd and 5th place in the 200 free and the 500 Free.
The 200 free relay of Benjamin Wergin, Easton Rydstrom, Colton Rydstrom, and Brandon Smith swam to a 4th place while the 400 free relay of Smith, Smith, Rydstrom, and Wergin swam to a 5th place.
The Kemmerer wrestling team came away with a third place finish at the Wyoming High school wrestling championships in Casper, and six wrestlers placing. Gavin Julander won the 160 pound state championship; as a senior he was able to end his high school career on top.

The Kemmerer High School track team traveled to Casper for the 2A state track meet. The boys were able to surpass six other teams to finish fifth at state.
Lukas Mathews and Louis Failoni have scored a combined 95 points at state track meets together the last 3 years, the most ever by a Kemmerer boys’ duo. Their total tops the career total of 93.5 points scored by Bruce Mowry and Tom Harding in 1979-81 (based on today’s scoring system, and including top three individual events and one relay).
Lukas Mathews and Louis Failoni dominated the 3200-meter run, as expected. The duo took the lead after the first three laps and never looked back, outpacing the third place finisher by 140 meters. Mathews finished second with 10:43.65.
Kemmerer performed well in the 4x800 meter relay. The team of Mathews, Nick Vineyard, John Caugherty and Failoni climbed from a fourth place-seed to finish second, with a time of 9:03.07.

The boys’ and girls’ teams were both crowned conference champions at the 2A Southwest Golf Conference. Curtis Ferrarini gave the team a boost on day one with his best career round, helping the Rangers with their wins.
