Larry Dean Gieck, 70, of Opal, passed away quietly at his home on Friday, March 3. He was born on Jan. 8, 1953, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the first son of Bobby and Fay Gieck.

He is preceded in death by his father, Bobby Gieck.

He is survived by his mother, Fay Gieck of Tucson, Arizona; his three brothers, Terry (Michelle), Gary (Dianne) and Perry Gieck; his wife, Kathy; son, Shawn (Danielle) of Great Bend, Kansas; daughters, Bobbie Graley (TJ) of Kemmerer and Stacey Bishop (Chuck) of Corinth, Maine; and son, Jason, of Opal. He has 12 grandkids and 14 great-grandkids, whom he loved very much.

Larry considered family to be the most important thing to him. He loved nothing more than bantering with his children and grandchildren. His laughter was infectious and could brighten up even the darkest room. He knew how to make everyone around him feel loved by pushing them to do their best and showing them how proud of them he was.

Larry was a very outgoing and talkative individual. He could hold a conversation with just about anyone. If you got him talking about hunting or fishing, he could tell you every spot and hill where the elk or fish were hiding. He could tell you how to fix a rifle without even seeing it. Larry held such a special place in the hearts of so many, and words cannot begin to describe how dearly he will be missed.

A celebration of life for Larry will be held at a later date.
