The Kemmerer High School track and field teams continued to make the most of the spring-like weather over the weekend, competing at the Strata Invitational in Roosevelt, Utah, Friday, then heading over to Rock Springs Saturday for the Ted Schroeder ‘Meet of Hope.’

The Lady Rangers placed sixth overall at the Strata Invite, while the Rangers finished 10th in the 14-team field. In Rock Springs the following day, the Lady Rangers finished in the top spot at the Meet of Hope, while the Rangers finished ninth.

At Friday’s Strata Invitational, the Lady Devils finished the day with nine individual placers en route to a sixth place finish, led by a win from Keira Heiner in the 200 meters (28.26); Heiner also finished sixth in the long jump (15 feet, 1 inch). Laynee Walker placed in both hurdle events, finishing second in the 300 hurdles (51.46) and third in the 100 hurdles (17.22), while Jolee Swaysey placed second in the 100 meters (13.34) and third in the long jump (15 feet, 8.5 inches).

Other placers included Tyler Thatcher in the 400 meters (6th, 1:08.04) and the 200 meters (8th, 29.81), and Nadia Runnion in the shot put (8th, 28 feet, 10.75 inches).

For the boys, Owen Burnett was the top Rangers finisher, placing second in the 800 meters, with a time of 2:01.34. Hunter Burnett placed fifth in the 300 hurdles (47.37), while Colter Krell and Skylar Rogers placed seventh in the 110 hurdles (19.06) and the long jump (18 feet, 8 inches), respectively.

Other Ranger placers included Bryson McGill in the high jump (8th, 5 feet, 8 inches) and the 4x100 relay team of Hunter Burnett, Kane Jimenez, Austin Ruvalcaba and Jace Bullington (6th, 49.84).

‘Meet of Hope’

The Lady Rangers had one of their best outings of the season at Saturday’s Meet of Hope in Rock Springs, placing in 14 individual events and winning four, along with the overall team title.

Keira Heiner led the charge for the girls, winning both the 200 (27.90) and 400 meters (103.88); she also ran a leg in the 4x100 relay – along with teammates Jolee Swasey, Laynee Walker and Natasha Martinez – who won the event in a time of 52.15.

Swasey rounded out the event winners on the girls’ side, winning the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 10 inches.

Laynee Walker placed in all three of her individual events, finishing second in the pole vault (8 feet), fourth in the 300 hurdles (50.41) and fifth in the 100 hurdles (17.78). Arianne Dearden finished fourth in the 3200 meters (15:02.15), Tyler Thatcher placed fifth in the pole vault (7 feet) and the 800 meters (2:47.23) and Natasha Martinez was fifth in the 200 meters (28.44). In the 400 meters, Haddy Plowman finished fifth (1:09.53), while Aralynne Erickson was seventh (1:10.28). Plowman also finished sixth in the high jump (4 feet). Nadia Runnion finished sixth in the discus, with a throw of 97 feet, 2 inches.

For the Rangers, Bryson McGill was the top finisher, placing fifth in the high jump, clearing a height of 5 feet, 6 inches. Malachi Villarreal finished sixth in the 3200 meters (12:06.54), Hunter Burnett was seventh in the 300 hurdles (48.17) and Skylar Rogers was eighth in the long jump (18 feet, 5.5 inches).

The Ranger relay teams also performed well, with the 4x100 team of Hunter Burnett, Kane Jimenez, Austin Ruvalcaba and Jace Bullington finishing fourth (50.15), and the 4x800 team of Malachi Villarreal, Bowman Sandall, Jacob Platt and Mason Riding finishing sixth (10:11.20).
