Eleven teams from western Wyoming, including the Kemmerer Rangers, played the Star Valley View Golf Course on Friday, August 25, and Saturday, August 26 in ideal conditions — warm and no wind. More than 90 golfers competed in the two-day event.

“This was by far our best meet of the year. The team as a whole played very well," said coach Zem Hopkins. "Many players shot their best rounds of the year or ever in competition. This was such a great improvement over last week. I am proud of them for all their efforts this week. This is what we need to shoot to become contenders for the 2A State Championships.”

The host team Star Valley Varsity won the tournament title with a score of 651. Second place went to 4A Riverton with 673. Next was Evanston at 676. 3A Pinedale placed fourth with 700, followed closely by 4A Jackson at 703. Sixth place went to the Kemmerer boys at 727. Star Valley’s second team came in with a 745. Lyman shot 749 for eighth place, and rounding out the team scoring was Green River at 782.

The Ranger boys were led by Junior Rayce Kindschuh, who tied for 9th overall in the tournament, with a career best 79-85=164. Next was Ty Hysell, with a score of 93-86=179. Sophomore Ben Wergin fired 101-87=188. Next was Brandon Banister with 96-100=196. Rounding out the Rangers Varsity was Shawn Crank with a fine 120-102=222.

Three Ranger boys competed in the J.V. portion of the meet. Leading the Rangers was Brandon Crank at 109-119=228. Next was Merrick Cooper with 120-117=237. Rounding out the JV scoring was Michael Clark at 126-120=256.

The Rangers travel to Rock Springs this week, and the following week have a two-day meet in Kemmerer and Green River.
