The 2017 fall golf season began on August 10 and 11 with the opening meet at the Lander Valley Golf Course. Seven teams and over 70 golfers played under ideal conditions.

Lander won the team title easily with a very fine 612 total. Second was Star Valley with 698 points, and third place went to Jackson with 733. Fourth was Riverton at 737. Next was Pinedale with a 750. Kemmerer shot a 769 for sixth place. Lyman rounded out the team event with a 782.

The Rangers were led by senior Ty Hysell, who scored 94 on the first day and 86 on the second, for a total score of 180. Next was junior Rayce Kindschuh with a 189. Sophomore Ben Wergin shot a 192. Senior Brandon Banister fired a 109 on day one and a 98 on day two for a total of 207.

Rounding out the varsity scoring was Sophomore Shaun Crank, who shot a 220. One junior varsity player made the trip — Brandon Crank, who shot 276.

“This was a great start for the boys,” Coach Zem Hopkins said. “I was very pleased with our team results. I was hoping that my older players would perform better. Sophomore Shaun Crank had a great tournament. This was his first varsity tournament and he shot his two best tournament rounds. I was very proud of his efforts. We need to improve our second day totals.”

This week the Rangers will travel to play the very difficult Riverton Country Club. This will be a big test for the boys, with 13 teams coming to the meet. The Rangers will be tested against many 3A and 4A teams.
