The Riverton Country Club was the venue for this past week’s fall golf tournament.

The Kemmerer Rangers joined twelve 4A and 3A teams from western Wyoming for the annual tournament on August 17 and 18. Over 105 boys and girls competed under ideal playing conditions. The course was in excellent condition, and the weather was hot.

The team event was won by the 4A Sheridan Broncos with a total of 637. Next was 3A Lander at 653. Third was Riverton at 700. 4A Evanston finished fourth with a 705 tied with 3A Star Valley. Pinedale was next at 733. Seventh was 3A Cody with a 736 total, followed closely by 4A Jackson at 746. Next were the Rangers at 783. Rounding out the team event was 3A Lyman at 819. Rock Springs did not bring enough boys for a team score.

The Kemmerer Rangers were led by Ty Hysell, who shot an 87 on day one and 89 on day two for a score of 176. Next for the Rangers was Rayce Kindschuh, who shot 188. Senior Brandon Banister shot 198. Ben Wergin fired 222. Rounding out the scoring for the varsity was Shawn Crank with 245. Senior Brandon Crank also competed and shot 250.

“The boys shot a very fine 365 for the first day and were in fifth place,” said Coach Zem Hopkins.” This was by far their best efforts this year and it was a big step toward becoming a team that can compete for a state championship at the state meet in September,”

“Our goal is to shoot lower the second day,” Hopkins continued. “We did not have that and I am hoping this is a wake-up call for the boys that the second day is important and we need to remain focused.

“What we take from this meet is that we played very well on a very difficult golf course and played as well as any team in Western Wyoming. I was so impressed with how we did the first day. I believe the boys are capable of very good things and this will be a building block for that.”

This week the Rangers travel to Star Valley for a two-day event at the Star Valley View Golf Course.
