Kemmerer High School athletes presented at Kemmerer Elementary School last week as part of the “Stay in the Game: Buckle Up” Wyoming Highway Patrol program.
Several high school athletes were selected to be photographed for the safety campaign posters and present to the elementary school kids about the importance of wearing a seatbelt and what it is like being a Kemmerer Ranger.
The student athletes were Benjamin Wergin, Austin Quin Martinez, Anthony Tibbetts, Shawn Crank, Derick Wilcox, Charity Chamberlain, Alexis Krall, Grace Bella and Kenley Plowman.
The WYDOT safety campaign photographs the student athletes and creates the posters to be used in classrooms and the gymnasiums.
“I wanted the message to be two-fold,” KJSHS athletic director Phil Thatcher said. “First, it is important to buckle up. Second I wanted the young students to see some of these high schoolers and be encouraged to be involved in high school activities.”
“I really appreciate Mr. Rogers and his staff at Kemmerer Elementary for letting us come down there,” Thatcher continued. “One other benefit of this presentation is that these high school students realize that there are many people in this community, some very impressionable, and I want them to see some of the faces they represent when they are competing.”
