Fifteen students from Kemmerer Junior Senior High School performed in the Young Musicians Festival in Evanston on April 13. Many of the students placed and earned superior rankings.
Kemmerer Junior Senior High School took 15 musicians to the Young Musicians Festival in Evanston on April 13. These students competed in the Band, Strings, and Piano divisions. Each student performed an instrument solo and was critiqued by a guest clinician/judge. Of those 13 musicians, six placed in the top three in their divisions and eight were chosen for the Honors Concert that evening.
In the Band division, the following students placed — Grades 5 and under: Jacob Platt (clarinet) 1st place; Grades 6–8: Mont Haslem (trumpet) 1st place, Tyler Thatcher (flute) 2nd place and Calvin Erickson (Euphonium) 3rd place; Grades 9–12: Olivia Seiler (flute) 1st place. Several students received a Superior rank (the highest rank one can receive) on their solos. Superior ranked students include Calvin Erickson, Janelle Sawaya, Connor Dietrich, Jacob Platt, Ivan Chacon, Aralyn Erickson, Mont Haslem, Kane Aberle, Tyler Thatcher and Olivia Seiler.
The following students received an Excellent rank on their solos: Chloe Messick, Warren Haslem, Derek Hagler, Kooper Handy and Afton Orvin.
In the Piano division, the following students placed — Grades 6–8: Aralyn Erickson 2nd place, Tyler Thatcher 3rd place; Grades 9–12: Olivia Seiler 1st place. All three Kemmerer pianists received Superior rank on their solos.
In the Strings division, Olivia Seiler received an Excellent rank on her violin solo.
The judges then chose students to participate in the Honors Concert later that evening. The following students were chosen: Tyler Thatcher (flute), Calvin Erickson (euphonium), Olivia Seiler (flute), Kane Aberle (tuba), Janelle Sawaya (French horn), Aralyn Erickson (piano), Mont Haslem (trumpet) and Connor Dietrich (alto saxophone).Congratulations to all these students on a successful music festival!
