The Kemmerer Rangers wrestling team traveled to Riverton last weekend for the Ron Thon tournament — every team in the state is invited to the tournament, so there were over forty teams competing. First place at the tournament went to Thunder Basin, second place to Star Valley and third place to Kelly Walsh.

Kemmerer came away with a 12th place finish. The Rangers had one champion, junior Donny Proffit, who continued his successful season by winning his 138-pound weight class. Proffit earned 33 points for the Rangers team.

Junior Hayden Walker won a very hard-fought third place match in the 170 class. Walker earned 21.5 points for the Rangers at the tournament.

Dawson Schramm finished 4th in a very exciting 120-pound weight class, and earned 19 points for the Kemmerer Rangers. Carson Carlson and Colter Julian both competed in the 126-pound weight class — they both advanced to the quarterfinals but did not place.

Josh Thatcher competed in the 138-pound weight class and was one win away from placing. Lowell Ellis competed in the 152-pound weight class; he wrestled well but was unable to place. Jeydon Boyd competed in the 195-pound weight class. Boyd won some great matches but came up one win short of placing.

Kemmerer had two wrestlers compete in the junior varsity division of the tournament: Cayson Smith and Andres Vega. Both wrestlers competed well and got some important wins. This Rangers team is currently ranked second in 2A.

They are a very tough bunch that just continue to get better with every wrestling match. The Rangers will wrestle in Mountain View on Friday, Feb. 2, in the Bridgerland tournament.
