The Kemmerer High School track team traveled to Wind River High School last Saturday to kick off the season.

The boys’ team finished second in the ten-team meet, only bested by Pinedale.

The girls’ team finished sixth with Pinedale winning the girls division as well. Overall, the team placed third behind Pinedale and Wind River. Several athletes posted great marks in their first attempt of the year.

“Our athletes have been working really hard to get into shape,” said track coach Shawn Rogers. “Many of them are still working to find which events they want to specialize in. Overall our attitude has been great and it is good to see so many kids wanting to work hard and get better.”

Last year’s 2A state champion in the 3200-meter run, Louis Failoni, placed first in the event with a time of 11 minutes flat. That time already prequalifies him for the state track meet in Casper. Failoni also placed first in the mile run.

Tanner Plowman placed third in both the long and triple jump events. His marks of 18 ft 6 inches and 39 feet 1 inch are pretty strong for the first outing of the year.

Plowman also placed seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.84 seconds.

Jeydon Boyd had a great day, finishing third in the shotput at 40 feet 7.5 inches and fourth in the discus at 114 feet 11.5 inches.

Anthony Tibbetts was close behind in the shotput, finishing in fourth place.  Zach Jackson finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Kenley Plowman took third in the 400-meter dash with a great time of 65.16 seconds, close to state prequalification.

Brooklyn Hagler finished third in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Sophie Failoni finished fourth in the mile and Sydnie Julander finished fourth in the high jump.

Other scorers for the boys included Tyler Vineyard’s sixth place in the 800-meter dash, Cameron Adam’s sixth place finish in the 200-meter dash, and Austin Quin Martinez’s pair of eighth place finishes in the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes. Oscar Zhang just missed the scoring in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dash.

Also for the girls, Sophie Failoni and Angel Sadler placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 800-meter dash.

Marisa Orcutt placed seventh in the 200-meter dash.  Just out of the scoring were Julander in the 800 meter dash and Jillian Tibbetts in the discus.

The boys 4x100 meter relay team of TC Coles, Adams, Plowman and Martinez ran a fast time of 48.38 seconds, placing third.

The girls 4x100 meter relay team of Hagler, Tibbetts, Katie Zuniga and Orcutt also placed third.

The girls 4x800 meter relay team of Julander, Plowman, Teryn Thatcher and Failoni ran a good time, finishing first in an uncontested race.  The boys 4x800 meter relay team of Holden Stubbs, Andres Vega, Vineyard and Failoni placed second.

The boys 4x400 meter relay team of Brayden Dearden, Grady Killian, Thomas Mills and Alvaro DeVicente placed third.

Also competing for the Rangers were Christina Rivera, Nick Carson, Merrick Cooper, Michael Grimes, Jacob Riley, Kimberly Turner, Nick Carson, Aaron Ortiz, Callie Bosch and Shaunna Steed.

The Rangers traveled to the Davis Super Meet in Kaysville, Utah on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The March 23 Big Piney meet was cancelled, so the next Ranger track meet is on Saturday, March 24, at Copper Hills High School in West Jordan, Utah.
