You may have noticed some old playground equipment had disappeared from the school. While, normally, this equipment would have been tossed away, there was another plan for it. Cortney Bartschi, the Kemmerer Little League treasurer, said they met with Theresa Chaulk, the Lincoln County School District No. 1 superintendent, and asked if they could have it.
Since before January 2020, the Little League has been working toward building a playground beside the Little League field.
“It will be nice to have during baseball season,” Bartschi said. “It will last a lifetime. I bet my kid’s kids will be playing on it.”
Bartschi said that the playground and the sand were donated by those in the community. The Little League borrowed equipment from Gunter’s in order to dig the holes for fences posts. They received a grant from Rotary for the fencing, according to Bartschi. The city also helped when they could, according to Bartschi.
“The city came with all of their equipment to help move the playground equipment,” Bartschi said. “This wouldn’t have been possible without all the help from the community.”
According to Bartschi, the playground should be open within the week. Kids were already swinging and playing on the equipment as the adults worked to finished the fence.
