Kemmerer golf competes at Rock Springs, preps for Thermopolis

On Thursday, August 30, and Friday, August 31, the Kemmerer Rangers golf team competed at the annual Rock Springs Invitational. Nine of the best teams from 4A and 3A in the state of Wyoming played the challenging White Mountain Golf Course.

The team event was won by 4A powerhouse Cheyenne East. Second was 3A Lander and next was Star Valley. The top three teams were all within 15 strokes. The Kemmerer Rangers finished seventh out of the nine teams with a score of 763.

The Rangers were led by freshman Blake Wood with a 88-88–176, finishing in the top 20. Next was senior Rayce Kindschuh with 94-86–180. Ben Wergin shot 91-93–184. Next was Shawn Crank at 107-116–223. Rounding out the team scoring was Michael Clarke with 115-117–232.

The team results were good, and I was very proud of how the boys played in this meet against the extremely tough competition. They played the hardest competition in the state and they competed very well. We need to improve our team scoring from all the team members. We are working toward the state meet, and so we are working to improve so we can increase our chances of success at the state meet in two weeks.

On Sept. 6 and 7, the Rangers are in Thermopolis for a 2A meet with Lovell and Thermopolis, two of the top teams in the 2A division. This will be a good meet for the Rangers to see how they compete on the 2A level.
