The Lady Rangers girls’ swim team had their first meet of the season on Friday, August 24, at Lander Valley High School. The team competed against swimmers from Lyman, Sublette County, Worland, Cody, Riverton and Lander.

The team qualified four swimmers for state at the meet.

“I was really impressed by our seniors,” said coach Amanda Aimone. “They did a great job of swimming hard and trying to be supportive of the entire team. That’s something we will need from them all season long.”

At the Lander meet, the team of Sophie Failoni, Teryn Thatcher, Brooklynn Hagler and Alexis Krall earned 4th place in the 200-yard medley relay.

Thatcher swam to an 8th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.

In the diving event, Sydnie Julander earned 2nd place, and Laurel Clarke earned 6th place. Julander also qualified for state in the diving event.

The Lady Rangers swam well in the 100-yard freestyle race. Krall finished 2nd and Hagler finished 3rd, qualifying both of the Lady Rangers to compete at state in the event.

Teryn Thatcher finished in 3rd place in the 100-yard breastroke, with Hagler not far behind in 5th place. Thatcher qualified for state with her finish.

The Lady Rangers started off the season strong, but not having a home pool to practice in is a challenge.

“We definitely need to sprint more and continue working on starts and turns,” Aimone said.

The team of Thatcher, Krall, Hagler and Addison Wilcox swam to a ninth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle relay.

Failoni, Clarke, Julander and Shelby Swann followed that up with 10th place in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Addison Wilcox and Sophie Failoni competed in the 200-yard freestyle event.

Failoni swam the 100-yard backstroke.

The team of Krall, Julander, Wilcox and Swann competed in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Lady Rangers have their next meet on Friday, August 31, and Saturday, Sept. 1,  at Green River High School.

The girls’ swim team is coached by Amanda Aimone. Managers for the Lady Rangers swim team are Brayden Dearden and Aiden Runnion.
