The Kemmerer Ranger boys basketball team played in the 2A West Regional tournament on Thursday, Feb. 22, and Friday, Feb. 22. The Rangers fought hard but were unable to qualify for the state tournament.

On Thursday, Feb. 22 Kemmerer played Rocky Mountain, the top-ranked team in the tournament.

“Rocky Mountain was strong underneath with good perimeter shooting, especially in the first half,” said Rangers head coach Steve Moyles. “The Rangers fought hard in the second half, out-scoring Rocky Mountain, but it wasn’t enough.”

In the Rangers’ 76-47 loss, Colter Brunski had 18 points and five rebounds. Tanner Plowman had nine points and six rebounds for the Rangers. Louis Failoni had six points. Cole Meeks and Derick Wilcox each had four points, and Corbin Ourada chipped in two points.

On Friday, Feb. 23, the Kemmerer Rangers played Greybull, and lost 61–42,  which eliminated Kemmerer from a state appearance.

“Our weak performance in the third quarter led (Greybull) to victory,” Moyles said.

Tanner Plowman had 12 points against Greybull.

Cole Meeks had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Rangers. Colter Brunski had six points, five rebounds and three assists. Louis Failoni contributed five points, eight rebounds and two steals. Brandon Crank added five points and four assists. Ty Hysell had two points, two steals, and one block for the Rangers.

Moyles said he was very proud of the Rangers’ effort this season.

“Our team growth and individual improvement was obvious,” Moyles said. “Such improvement will be essential in the team’s success next season.”

Moyles also acknowledged the support of the Ranger community this season.

“I would like to thank the cheerleaders, band, students, bus drivers, faculty, community and parents for all their support,” Moyles said. “I would also like to thank coach Chamberlain and coach Plowman for all their help as well.”

Moyles thanked seniors Ty Hysell, Louis Failoni, Brandon Crank, Corbin Ourada and Oscar Zhang for their hard work on the team.

“They are a great bunch of kids who have a very bright future ahead,” Moyles said.
