Ina Marie Rogers Peterson

Ina Marie Rogers Peterson, 83, passed away May 4, after approximately an 11-year struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Ina was the daughter of Alfred and Lucille Rogers. She was raised in Paris, Idaho, and attended Emerson Elementary and Fielding High School. In high school she met her sweetheart, LaThair Peterson. After graduation, they married and were sealed together in the Idaho Falls Temple on Aug. 8, 1952. They lived in Paris for a few short months and then moved to Ovid where they built their home. Ina and LaThair were the parents of five children. They worked together raising their children and running their dairy farm in Ovid. 

Ina was an active member of the LDS church. She served in many positions of leadership in Relief Society, Young Women’s and Primary. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the American Cancer Society. She worked as a relief carrier and rural carrier for the United States Postal Service for several years in the Ovid, Bern, Liberty, Lanark and Sharon areas.

Ina was an avid genealogist and served at the Genealogy Library for many years. She also enjoyed indexing for the church. She has provided many genealogy books for her family as well as helping others to search out their ancestors. She made beautiful quilts for her children, grandchildren and friends. These quilts are treasures for her family. She was a beautiful knitter and made hundreds of articles for the humanitarian center. 

Ina was always serving those around her whether it was in her church calling or just helping friends and neighbors. She was a woman without guile.

Ina was loved by her family and extended family. She served her family and supported them through the good times as well as in their struggles. She will be missed by all her friends, family, and her husband who has cared tirelessly for her through these long years of illness.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael L. Peterson and a great-granddaughter, Hazel Peterson.

She is survived by her husband, LaThair Peterson of Ovid; daughter-in-law, Debra Peterson of Smithfield; daughter, Sandra (Jeff) Wright of Boise; son, Monte (Kimi) Peterson of Blackfoot; son, Marty (Verna) Peterson of Boise; son, Mark (Kris) Peterson of Bloomington; one sister, Mary Pigott of Bountiful, Utah; and two brothers, William Rogers of Pocatello and Thomas Rogers of Ogden, Utah. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday May, 11, at Schwab-Matthews Mortuary and from 9-10:45 a.m. on Friday, May 12, prior to the funeral service in the Liberty Ward Chapel

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 12, in the Liberty Ward Chapel at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Ovid Cemetery.
