Canyon Elementary 4th and 5th graders performed a special musical program called “We Honor You” at the KJSHS auditorium on Thursday, Nov. 9, in observance of Veterans Day.

The auditorium was packed with fellow students, family members and local veterans.

Canyon Elementary music teacher Sheril Slater directed the program.

Boy Scouts Colby Bowen, Tommy Skidmore and Jonathan Platt presented the colors, and the Kemmerer High School Choir sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

The 4th and 5th graders then sang “We Share America,” “I Love That Grand Old Flag,” “A Time to Remember” and “American Heart.”

At the start of each musical number, students spoke about their appreciation for veterans and the freedoms they provide for America.

The students performed “Welcome Home,” a song that addresses the tough transitions many veterans face upon returning from military service. The group finished the program with “We Honor You” and  “The Spirit of America.”

The community was invited to bring pictures of local veterans to display outside the KJSHS auditorium during the Veterans Day program. (GAZETTE PHOTO / Theresa Davis)
