Gordon Max Mickelson, 90, previously of Big Piney, Wyoming, passed away at his home in Lander, Wyoming, on May 10, 2017. A Masonic Graveside Service with Military Honors will take place on at 11:00am on Monday, May 15th at the Plainview Cemetery located in Big Piney, Wyoming.

Gordon M. Mickelson was born July 28, 1926 to James F. Mickelson and Mae Stewart Mickelson in Denver, Colorado. He married Margaret Gilchrist of Kemmerer, Wyoming, on July 26, 1944. They were married by her father, AL Gilchrist. Gordon graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1950. He served from 1944-1946 in the United States Army as an Infantry Sergeant. Gordon was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Board of Directors for the University of Wyoming 1978-1991, Wyoming House of Representatives 1965-1970, Alumni Board and Foundation Boards for the University of Wyoming, Big Piney Lodge #47 AF & AM, Knights Templar, 32 Degree Mason Scottish Rite, Shriner, OES, Board of Directors for State Bank of Big Piney, Board of Directors for First National Bank of Kemmerer, Trustee of Community Congregational Church, Director of American Legion Boys State, Outstanding Alumni of College of Agriculture, Outstanding Alumni of Big Piney High School. Mickelson also flew on the WWII Wyoming Veterans Honor Flight.

Mickelson is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bette Thompson (Bob) and Tharon Greenwood (Jim); brother, James; one daughter, Margaret; one great grandson, Gabriel, and one niece, Jill Palm.

Survivors include his children, Corliss (Jay) Carlson, Jim Mickelson, Gordon Mickelson, Eric (Mary) Mickelson, T. Mark (Diane) Mickelson and Mildred (Tom) Abernathy, son-in-law Jerry Peterson, and a large extended family. He had 23 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be mailed directly to the Community Congregational Church in Big Piney 410 Black Ave, Big Piney WY 83113 or S.W. Sublette County Pioneers Senior Citizens Center East, 429 E 1st St, Big Piney, WY 83113.
